A Program Increment represents a quarterly planning period. PIs group sprints together and give your team a higher-level view of what's planned across 3 months.
What You'll See
The page displays a quarterly grid for the selected year:
| Quarter | Months |
|---|---|
| Q1 | January – March |
| Q2 | April – June |
| Q3 | July – September |
| Q4 | October – December |
Each quarter shows its status:
- Past — Grayed out (quarter has ended)
- Active — Highlighted with a progress bar (current quarter)
- Future — Light color (upcoming)
- Empty — No PI has been created for this quarter yet
Navigation
Use the year arrows or dropdown to jump between years.
Creating a Program Increment
Click on an empty quarter to create a PI. Set the start and end dates for the quarter, then create sprints within it from the Sprints page.
Tips
- 💡 PIs help teams align on quarterly goals. Think of them as the big picture that sprints break down.
- 💡 Use the Generate Sprints feature on the Sprints page to quickly fill a PI with evenly-spaced sprints.
- 💡 If you don't use Scrum, toggle Hide Sprint Features in your Preferences to remove PIs and sprints from the sidebar.
