Blueprints are pre-built project templates that give you a head start. Instead of creating a project from scratch, you can import a blueprint that comes with a ready-made set of work items organized in a hierarchy.
Browsing Blueprints
The Blueprints page shows a gallery of available templates. Each card displays:
- Template name and description
- How many work items are included
- The methodology (Kanban or Scrum)
Previewing
Click Preview on any blueprint to see exactly what's inside — the full list of work items, their types, and how they're structured (Initiatives → Epics → Stories → Tasks).
Importing a Blueprint
Click Import and you'll be asked to:
- Select a workspace — Choose where the new project should live.
- Override the name (optional) — Give the project a custom name, or keep the blueprint's default.
- Override the prefix (optional) — Set a custom prefix for work item numbers.
Click Confirm and Dragon Planner creates the project with all the blueprint's work items already in place.
What Happens After Import
You'll have a new project with all the work items from the blueprint. From there, you can:
- Modify, delete, or add new items
- Assign team members
- Start working immediately
Tips
- 💡 Blueprints are great for repeatable processes — like launching a new product, onboarding a client, or running a marketing campaign.
- 💡 After importing, the project is completely yours to customize. Changes don't affect the original blueprint.
