Basics
Story Points
Story points are a way to estimate the relative size and complexity of work items. They're not hours — they represent effort compared to other items.

Available Values
Dragon Planner uses a modified Fibonacci scale:
1 • 2 • 3 • 5 • 8 • 13
- 1–2 — Small, well-understood work. A few hours at most.
- 3–5 — Medium effort. Might take a day or two.
- 8–13 — Large or complex. Consider breaking it into smaller items.
Where to Set Them
- In the detail modal (Story Points dropdown on the right side)
- Via the right-click context menu
- During bulk operations
How They Help
Story points are especially useful for Scrum teams:
- Sprint planning — Add up the points in a sprint to gauge if the workload is realistic.
- Velocity tracking — Over time, your team will learn how many points it typically completes per sprint.
Tips
- 💡 Don't overthink it. Points are relative, not absolute. If one story is twice as hard as another, give it twice the points.
- 💡 If an item is 13 points or more, that's a sign it might be too big and should be broken into smaller pieces.
