Dragon Planner supports seven work item types, organized in a hierarchy from high-level planning down to individual tasks.
The Hierarchy
| Level | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Initiative | Large strategic goals |
| 2 | Epic | Major feature or capability |
| 3 | Story | User-facing requirement |
| 4 | Bug | Defect tracking |
| 5 | Task | Technical work |
| 6 | SubTask | Breakdown of a task |
| 7 | Spike | Research or exploration |
Choosing the Right Type
- Use Initiatives for big-picture goals that span weeks or months
- Break Initiatives into Epics for major feature areas
- Use Stories to describe what a user needs
- Track defects with Bugs
- Use Tasks for concrete to-do items
- Break complex tasks into SubTasks
- Use Spikes when you need to research something before committing to a plan
Hierarchy Rules
Dragon Planner enforces these parent-child rules to keep your project organized. If you try to drag an item to an invalid parent, you'll see a warning message explaining why it can't be placed there.
